- We flew into Cancun and rented a car to drive a large loop through the 3 states of the Yucatan Penninsula: Yucatan, Quintana Roo, and Campeche.
From Cancun we drove south on Hwy 307 almost to Belize;
We turned west onto Hwy 186 and continued through Xpujil to get to the one-way dead-end dirt road south to Calakmul;
Then turned around and headed north out of Xpujil on Hwy 269, and later Hwy 261. Maps mixed in with the photos show our route through this area. Eventually we arrived in Vallidolid and took the freeway east from there back to Cancun.
