The gathering in Omaha, Friday, July 15 - Sunday, July 17, 2011 seemed to be enjoyed by all 100+ who attended. We know not everyone was able to be with us, but please know, if you were one who did not attend, you were missed!
There was an informative tour of Interstate Printing Company, a narrated tour of the important sites in Omaha where Val and Greta lived, worked, worshiped and rest in peace, a gathering at the Bohemian Cafe, a Pizza dinner and a German dinner at the Embassy Suites, an excellent family history event (a slide show with artifact memorabilia on display too), and a very special Mass. We have left the Schedule of Events in place below, if you want to review them as they were listed.

errata: The case Grandpa Valentine Peter helped take to the Supreme Court was not Brown vs Board of Education (1956), but Meyer vs Nebraska (1923). This was regarding the right to teach a foreign language (specifically German) to a child. In 1918 the Nebraska State Legislature had passed a law prohibiting such. Search on "An act relating to the teaching of foreign languages in the State of Nebraska 1918" to find lots of interesting history on this landmark decision.

Friday evening -- Reunion Opens with an informal Pizza party at the Embassy Suites. Have supper, meet and greet old and new family friends, and pick up your family color-coordinated T-shirt.
Assorted cheese, meat, pepperoni, & veggie pizzas; tossed salad, breadsticks, soda, cookies - served buffet style. Cash bar.
Saturday -- Visit displays, videos, or attend a Saturday Seminar – interactive ways to learn more about the family. Suggestions for exhibits include …a study of Grandpa’s editorials in the Tribune papers …WW II stories …any activities we can think of to get to know each other and our family history better. Also -- pick up your cookbook and Peter Family Database CD.
Saturday evening -- Buffet Dinner at the Embassy Suites, plus Music, Singing…whatever we want to make happen.
They have a German chef so we made some changes from the regular menu:
Tossed salad, pasta salad, fruit salad, GERMAN POTATO SALAD, garlic whipped potatoes, RED CABBAGE, pecan encrusted tilapia, champagne chicken, rolls, coffee, tea, assorted desserts. Cash Bar.
Sunday morning -- Mass of Thanksgiving at The Embassy Suites.
